Tonight is the night! Our MIS musicians will shine bright!

Our 5th graders in Mr. Robert's math class are learning how to use Plickers. Plickers are an quick interactive tool that will help our teachers get student feedback using QR cards. The students determine their response and then hold the card according to that answer. The teacher uses their cell phone to scan all of the cards and the responses are recorded. The students thought the activity was "awesome" and they asked to do it more often.

December Kinderbuddies was full of holiday magic today!

Another National Novel Writing Month has come and gone and the Meteor Write Club has wrapped up their season.
This year's ten writers produced 114,045 words in just 30 days. Peyton Fitzgerald, Emme Giovanini, and Alex Herman all reached their word goals. Emme led the way with the most words, writing the equivalent of novels "The Call of the Wild" or "Ten Days in a Mad House" in one month.
Sofia "Sage" Sanchez and Dominic Santelli both were chosen by their peers for two writing awards each. Peyton Fitzgerald's "Mind Breaker" was voted the best title. In the final award of the afternoon, Sanchez earned a Varsity Award for participating in all three years here at Mokena Junior High. Since 6th grade, she has written about 40,000 words which is longer than "Old Man and the Sea", "The House on Mango Street", or "Animal Farm".
Congratulations to all of our Mokena writers. They are a creative bunch!

Every month at MIS we recognize one student from each homeroom for being a leader and setting a great example for classmates. The award is called the BIG DEAL AWARD. I am thrilled to present our November Big Deal Award recipients.

8th graders have been busy testing the acidity of household items in science! Items they tested include oda, window cleaner, pickle juice, lemon juice, baking soda, water, coffee, orange juice, lime juice, citric acid, bleach, vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide!

Students have been learning piano keyboard and ukulele in music class at MJHS!
