Two students represented the Mokena Music Department at District 1's ILMEA Festival on November 23rd. 8th grader, Clayton Carmody, and 7th grader, Lily Mcdonald, were selected from over 500 students who auditioned from the southwestern metropolitan Chicago area. Clayton plays the flute in our band and Lily plays the viola in our orchestra.
Orchestra instructor, Ms. Nyder, stated about the event, "ILMEA is not only an incredible opportunity for the students who get a full day of rehearsals with enthusiastic conductors and talented musicians from around the state, but it's very rewarding as educators to see students that we've worked with since they were in Beginning Band and Orchestra perform in such a large ensemble. Even the students who auditioned but didn't make it this year learned a lot from the audition material and it shows in their musicianship in class!"
